Do I provide tails for guests to try?
No, I do not, and here's why...
Not every swimmer is made equal. While we can gladly teach the mermaid swim to any guest with the physical capability, in the setting of a performer, we are already focused on the general safety hazard of having our fins in the water with varying ages. Not every child can safely manage their legs being strapped together, and the act of swimming in a tail poses a risk of drowning as a result. In large parties of 10 and up, this is even riskier as there are multiple bodies to one performer. For the same reason that daycares cannot have more than 3 children to one caretaker on average, we mermaids do not take that risk on your children, or other ages of guests.
Anyone, any age, can drown at any time from improper use of a tail and monofin. On top of the concern for swimmers, not every tail is made equal either. Some tails are more difficult to get in and out of of, and some are not actually water safe. Because of these concerns, we do not recommend purchasing tails for kids to use at a party.
Except at the following places:
- mertailor
- finfun
- magictail
The places listed above make and sell safe monofins and tails for all ages. We are willing to supervise up to two children at a time under the condition that they wear a life vest or similar flotation device that supports the chest.
Why so expensive???
Mermaids get this question all the time.
What you may not know is that tails, wigs, tops, safety training, makeup, travel, having an assistant (required), performers insurance...all of the components of giving you a top notch mermaid experience is a costly investment that we make to ensure you, your children, our equipment, is all SAFELY handled.
A "cheap" mermaid will lack the proper training, experience, and equipment to provide you the best experience. Working in water is dangerous, and of course, working with excited children in water is often dangerous too. So we MUST get the proper training and experience to perform for you.
